Madden NFL has evolved to become one of the most advanced sports games ever created. In fact, the game has become so realistic that it has accurately predicted the outcome of the Super Bowl 7 out of 9 times, putting it on par with Princess the camel.
The big difference between the two, however, besides the two humps, is the sheer amount of number crunching that happens behind the scenes in Madden NFL. Not only does it utilize a hyper realistic physics engine, Madden NFL also updates its player stats weekly.
Cam Weber, EA Sports’ football general manager, told Wired.com, “The NFL office talks to us like we’re the 33rd franchise. We have total access, just like the NFL players and coaches do. And then we go in and make sure our teams are playing as accurately as possible.”
The result is a remarkably detailed–and usually correct– forecast. Just take a look at the previous 9 years. Notice that while the scores vary, the point differential is virtually spot on.
So which team did Madden NFL name as the winner of Super Bowl XLVII? With a final score of 27-24, the predicted winner is the Baltimore Ravens. And for the record, The San Francisco 49ers have been favored by 3 ½ points. Let’s see if Madden proves Vegas wrong.
