It’s really rad when a rumor sort of substantiates itself, especially when that rumor involves Star Wars, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.
According to a George Lucas “slip” (or just another ingenious cog in the PR machine, who knows), Lucas got all three stars to sign onto 2015’s J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars Episode VII before Lucasfilm merged with the Mouse a/k/a Disney.
Bloomberg Businessweek via Wired reports that Lucas had “had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison — or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation [when the Disney deal came about]. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’”
Later, the creative mastermind backed out of his statements slightly, saying “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.”
He won’t admit to whether the “negotiations were successful or not,” but all signs are pointing to the affirmative. We’ll just have to wait and see.
