Prince has struck again, this time in Texas. According to Rolling Stone, Minnesota’s finest started off the final night of SXSW saying, “Don’t make me hurt you – you know how many hits I have?” Then he proceeded to bring the funk for the next two and a half hours for the limited crowd of only 300 people, playing multiple encores and finishing off the night around 3 am, outlasting some fans.
Flowing between jam session and funk party, Prince mostly played band leader more than superstar, showcasing his 12-piece band and singing and dancing the night away, without ever touching his guitar the entire night. Prince’s new single “Screwdriver” wasn’t heard either, instead he played covers of Curtis Mayfield, Michael Jackson, Morris Day and the Time and Sheila E.’s hit “The Glamorous Life” (which Prince wrote).
Bummed you haven’t had a chance to see Prince yet in 2013? Keep a (third) eye out for more upcoming Prince shows, and if you’re a high roller, you can see him headline the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
