Laser pointers are evil, folks. That’s what our 8th grade math teacher told Bobby before he got detention for burning Susie’s cornea. That’s what our cat thinks when she chases it around the house like she’s huffed bath salts.
And that’s what the federal government thinks when you point a laser pointer up a two discreet government air crafts.
A North Hollywood teenager named Adam Gardenhire did just that to a police helicopter and a private plane at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport and now he’s been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison according to LAist.
If you’re like, wtf, how does that happen, it’s that President Obama passed a federal statute to make it a chargeable offense to point a laser pointer at an aircraft.
Someone must have really screwed something up (George in La Habra, we’re looking at you), but this is the second time Obama’s legislation has been used.
