For all intents and purposes, Metallica have seemingly been working on everything but new music. They’re pushing their forthcoming 3D Metallica Through The Never movie, are wrapped up in their Orion Festival, have their own label Blackened Records, and even have a ping-pong game coming out.
But gutiarist Kirk Hammett told GulfNews.com via Classic Rock Magazine that they’re working on their new album, but it will be complete next year because the 3D movie took up so much time.
“That’s what we’re hoping would happen,” said Hammett about the album finish date. “Whether that’s a reality, we’ll see. We’re recording stuff here and there but it’s a pretty slow process. Metallica Through The Never is taking precedence over anything else at the moment, We want to make sure the movie gets our full attention and it turns out the way we want it to turn out.”
If they complete their album in 2014, it will probably come out in 2015, leaving a 7 year gap between their upcoming project and 2008’s Death Magnetic.
