Journalism is awesome, except when you realize that the musicians themselves might be better at your job than you are. So when the amazing drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers interviewed Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson on his podcast called “In Conversation with Chad Smith,” we realized we could never really be truly cool.
The podcast was recorded by Smith in the days before their upcoming induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Smith calls his format an “invisible interview,” one based on “admiration, respect, insight and maybe a surprise.”
“I’ve been a Rush fan since high school,” said Smith. “Neil [Peart] gets a lot of attention, as he should, but Al is underappreciated, I think. He is as great a musician as he is to be around. I’m honored for him to be my first. He was gentle with me!”
MusicRadar.com will host the first podcast this Monday, May 13.
