Dave Chappelle Is About To Get Funny Or Die

For a certain demographic, Half Baked is the greatest comedy of all time, right up there with Friday. That stoner epic was released back in 1998, but that was hardly the high watermark for Dave Chappelle. In 2003 Comedy Central debuted Chappelle’s Show, and for two seasons it was one of the funniest sketch comedy shows on the air.

(We still have debates here at Jack as to which was the funniest bit he ever did, an impossible discussion, we know. Just a few of the nominees: Wayne Brady, The Racial Draft, Wu Tang Financial, Reparations, and, of course, Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories).

But due to the success of Chappelle’s Show, “I’m Rick James, bitch” in particular, Chappelle abruptly left the business. Aside from 2005’s Dave Chappelle’s Block Party and a few random standup appearances, he has virtually not been heard from since.

Until now, that is.

Spin is reporting that Dave Chappelle is teaming up with Flight of the Conchords for the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity touring festival. Presented by Funny or Die and Live Nation, Chappelle will embark on a 13 city tour, with a stop in SoCal September 15th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Joining him onstage are Demetri Martin and Al Madrigal, Hannibal Buress, Kristen Schaal, Jim Jefferies, and more, with more to be announced.

Tickets go on sale June 22nd at FunnyorDie.com
