Lost: Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department M-16 assault rifle. If found, please return immediately.  Goes by the name of assault rifle.

Assistant Sheriff Todd Rogers apparently sent an e-mail to all his peeps on the inside that the department is missing an assault weapon, that it’s “embarrassing,” and that “to turn over EVERY rock to find this missing rifle.”

A spokesperson named Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times that because it’s a “surplus” weapon, it wasn’t tracked as “acutely” as other weapons. How did that happen. Whitmore just replied, “Honestly, we don’t know.”
