There’s no doubt that Michael Jackson‘s music has influenced many modern pop singers and if he hadn’t died tragically in 2009, he might still be making new music that would influence generations to come. Although questions still rage on about what happened, Jackson’s fans are some of the most devoted, especially his fans that are also musicians.
Most musicians are smart enough not to mess with Jackson’s talent by covering him, but when they do, it usually sounds amazing. It’s kind of hard to ruin a good song if you aren’t a total hack.
Here are some of our favorite “rock” covers of Michael Jackson songs, including popular ones done by Weird Al and Alien Ant Farm, a heart-wrenching version of “Billie Jean” by Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, a Fall Out Boy one which is strangely good even though (we think) relatively unknown, and Third Eye Blind getting in on a Jackson 5 original, which they covered right after Jackson’s death.
Are there any Michael Jackson covers you love that we’re missing?
“Smooth Criminal”-Alien Ant Farm
“Beat It”-Fall Out Boy
