What do Freddie Mercury and Angry Birds have in common? Besides a mass appeal, really nothing, but Queen has collaborated with the popular iPhone game, Angry Birds, for Freddie For A Day 2013 to help raise money for The Mercury Phoenix Trust charity to fight HIV/AIDS. The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, September 5 in honor of what would have been Mercury’s 67th birthday and musicians like Roger Daltrey will be performing at One Mayfair in London for the grand ceremony.
Angry Birds is helping out by creating a “Freddie Bird,” based on Freddie Mercury, that will appear in the game and the tournament will have a Freddie theme with song references. You will be able to play it on Facebook or your phone from September 2nd to September 8th.
“Last year we were thrilled to participate in ‘Freddie For A Day’ by bringing Freddie Mercury into the flock in one of our all-time favourite animations,” said Philip Hickey, the VP of Marketing at Rovio Entertainment. “We are delighted to continue our support and to drive awareness for The Mercury Phoenix Trust again this year through a ‘Freddie For A Day’ themed tournament on Angry Birds Friends – including iconic song references and even moustaches!”
