Infamous Heist Inspires New Film, ‘Fleecing Led Zeppelin’

Although it sounds like an extravagant Hollywood heist film, the theft of $200,000 from a hotel bank vault holding Led Zeppelin‘s cash and goodies is a true story that two filmmakers are looking to capitalize on with a film called Fleecing Led Zeppelin.

Screenwriter Jackie May Tolliver and director Gave Tolliver are looking for funding to delve deeper into the Drake Hotel theft that’s valued at $1.1m today. During the robbery, Led Zeppelin was playing at Madison Square Garden. While the hotel is no longer around, the mystery of what happened to the money has never been solved. “There’s no sign of the money. But somebody took it,” said the filmmakers. “Was it manager Peter Grant? Road manager Richard Cole? Housekeeping? It’s a fan movie, for lovers of history, or for folks who just want to know what happened to that money.”

Although you can view their trailer above, the Tolliver’s are looking for help to finish the film including editing, sound design, music rights, DVD, advertising, and film festivals. They have an Indiegogo campaign and are looking for $35,000 by November 3rd.
