Philadelphia native and drummer for the Roots, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is penning a book about the history of Soul Train.
Thompson told SPIN magazine, “I’ve spent every free second of my life listening to music, watching Soul Train, creating music, and reading books about music. That’s what I did with my life.”
Soul Train: The Music, Dance and Style of a Generation, due out October 22, will celebrate the “legacy of Soul Train—the cultural phenomenon that launched the careers of artists such as Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, Whitney Houston, Lenny Kravitz, LL Cool J, and Aretha Franklin.” The Empress of Soul herself, Gladys Knight even contributed to the forward.
The book will include more than 300 photos and stories commemorating the show’s most memorable episodes and the stars that helped make it a success.
