Metallica is a global phenomenon and have played every continent but one. That’s going to change when the thrash metal legends cross Antarctica off of their to-do list for a one-off show, when they play the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on December 8.

There’s a few catches, though.

First: there will be no amplifiers involved. But it won’t be an “unplugged” type of deal. Instead, the band’s performance will be transmitted directly to audience members’ headphones.

The other catch: you probably can’t go.

According to Metallica’s website, “Latin American fans in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico will be able to enter a contest for the chance to win an Antarctic cruise that sails December 3-10 and will stop at Carlini. The show will also be streamed live for in Latin American countries and will be filmed so fans in other territories (like America) can see the show at a later date.”
