Rush is going to launch their upcoming live album/concert film, titled Clockwork Angels Tour, via a Fathom Event (Fathom is the company which puts on one-night-only events in movie theaters nationwide).
Recorded in Dallas and Phoenix on Rush’s tour for their 2012 album Clockwork Angels, it was part of a great year for the band, which, of course, saw them finally being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The setlist includes songs from Clockwork Angels, as well such classics such as “Tom Sawyer,”"The Spirit of Radio” and “2112.”
With ten live albums (many of which are also available on video), what makes this show different? Well, one big difference is the Clockwork Angels String Ensemble, which marks the first time the trio has taken additional musicians on stage. (Read more: Rush To End 2013 With Live Album, DVD).
Geddy Lee recently told Radio.com that using the string section was something he’d wanted to do long before the Clockwork Angels album.
“Well, it’s been kind of a secret dream for me for many years to record and play live with a string section. Now, I had a bigger string section in mind, but when we recorded Clockwork Angels and Nick (Raskulinecz), our producer, suggested that maybe four of the songs would really suit a string arrangement. So, he brought (arranger) David Campbell in to meet us. He had worked with David before and we got along right from the get go and he had a knack of really understanding what’s appropriate in terms of strings for a Rush song. The strings session was so interesting, and really when they played ‘The Garden,’ we were all kind of tearing up, because it was kind of an emotional moment for some reason. And afterwards we said ‘Look David, if we ever want to do this on the road, would you be up for doing the string arrangements and helping us put a group together?’ He said, ‘Yeah, totally,’ and like a dog with a bone, I didn’t let it go.”
The Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour Fathom Event will be available starting at 21:12 military time PT (which is 9:12 pm) tonight (October 31), and the event takes place Monday November 18, local time. Get tickets and info here.
