DUI’s are no joke. Even drinking a little can affect your driving skills. But there is a legal limit for a reason and apparently a wonky test at the Orange County Crime Lab was giving out totally inaccurate blood-alcohol readings for drunk driving cases for at least five months.
While only twenty people were actually found to be under the .08 blood alcohol legal limit to date, the errors could impact upwards of 900 people who were convicted or pled guilty to drunk driving. Letters sent out to 900 people tell them to talk to an attorney.
The faulty machine messed up the BAC numbers by a mere .003 percentage points, but that was enough to tip some people over the edge. That doesn’t mean that people who were actually under are going to get away with drunk driving. By the time those people got in to the station to take a test, they could have sobered up a little.
