It must be a nice problem to have, but drummer Matt Cameron had to decide between working with his two bands, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, in 2014. As he posted on Soundgarden’s official website: “I will be taking 2014 off from Soundgarden touring due to prior commitments promoting Lightning Bolt with my brothers in Pearl Jam and the desire to have more time at home with my family. I am trying to balance the many twists and turns of my awesome music career. This is temporary. I am still an active member of Soundgarden. Chris, Ben, Kim and I are in the process of finding the perfect substitute for the upcoming Soundgarden dates in 2014.”
While he wasn’t Soundgarden’s founding drummer, he joined the band early enough to play on their debut EP, 1987’s Screaming Life, remaining with them until their breakup in 1997. About a year later, he joined Pearl Jam (he’d played with the band members on the 1991 album by the side project Temple Of The Dog). He’s been with them ever since, although he has been splitting his time between the two bands since Soundgarden reunited in 2010.
