Oh, the irony. Uber, a service most popular because of the ability to push a button and get a car, has been making the news a lot lately. And not for good reason. After bumping up their prices during a New York City snowstorm (and allegedly charging one woman $357 for a ride from the Westside to Hollywood), now we’re hearing about a lady that had her phone kidnapped by a shady Uber driver named “Emmanuel.”
In an interview with LAist, Jennifer Gomez took an Uber ride on Thursday after drinking but left he work cell phone in the car. When a friend contacted the driver, he asked for $500 for the phone back. After contacting Uber, the company said that they would deactivate his account until she got her phone back, but she never got it back.
Emmanuel was supposed to drop off the phone, but ended up flaking and disappearing, while the woman is trying to get reimbersed for a new phone.
Talk about ruining the holiday spirit.
