1977 Star Wars We were gonna start the list at 1980, but it’s Star Wars, still a pop culture phenomenon over 35 years later. With the Disney acquisition and a new trilogy in the works, Star Wars shows ZERO signs of slowing down. Their toys are as popular now as they were then.

1980 Rubik’s Cube FACT: solving a Rubik’s Cube makes you the smartest person in the room.

1983 My Little Pony and Cabbage Patch Dolls Creepy little ponies and creepy looking dolls. The 80’s were a strange decade.

1984 Transformers And don’t forget their cheap rip-off, Gobots. Talking robots that transform was, is, and will always be, awesome.

1985 Care Bears and Teddy Ruxpin More 80’s era creepiness.

1988 Nintendo Entertainment System Or just Nintendo, for short. The console that truly started the video game revolution (sorry Atari). Childhood hasn’t been the same since.

1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heroes in a half shell, turtle power. If you thought the 80’s were trippy, just get a load of what the 90’s brought to the table. TMNT is prime example number 1.

1991 Game Boy The year gaming went portable. Gaming hasn’t been the same since.

1992 Barney “I Love you, you love me. We’re a happy family.” SHUT UP Barney, you freaky, giant purple dinosaur. You’re not part of my family.

1993 Power Rangers Ah the Power Rangers. This was among the first examples of anime becoming live action, and kids ate it up.

1995 Pog What the hell, 1990s? For reasons unknown, these flimsy round cardboard discs became an absolute craze.

1996 Tickle Me Elmo Fights broke out over Tickle Me Elmos. People seriously got hurt. All for a little red laughing doll. Crazy

1997 Beanie Babies and Tamagotchi Can anyone explain to us what a Beanie Baby is? Are they aliens or something? What about Tamagotchi? Anyone?

1999 Furby and Pokemon Seems like everyone had a Furby and Pokemon. Squirtle.

2000 Razor Scooters We used to ride on, and so did you. Admit it.

2001 Bratz The transition from Barbie to hoochie was complete.

2000 on: Game Consoles Seriously, since like 2000, the hottest toys have been video games or video game consoles, including this year’s battle between XBOX ONE and the PlayStation 4. We could make a list of just the best selling video games of the decade. But don’t forget other little gadgets like iPods, iPhones, iPad, iEverything.

Eternity LEGO All they are are little building blocks that stick together, but since 1949, LEGO has always been a top seller. After branching out into franchises like Star Wars, Batman, and Harry Potter as well as getting in to the video game business, LEGO may very well last forever.
