Keith Richards has already captivated his older fans with the many of the stories of his youth in his best selling memoir, Life, but now he’s looking to reach a slightly younger audience with one of his G-rated tales.
The Rolling Stones guitarist has written a children’s book called Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar, which will be out on September 9 via Little, Brown, the publisher which has brought us kiddie favorites like Arthur and Monster High.
According to Rolling Stone, the inspiration for this book came from a story in Richards’ 2010 memoir, where he explains how his jazz-band member grandfather, Theodore Augustus Dupree (better known as “Gus”) turned him on to music.
“I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I’m talking about,” Richards said in a statement about the book. “The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me.”
The book is a collaboration between Keith and his daughter (and Gus’ namesake), Theodora, who illustrated the project. The book also includes old photos from the Richards family collection.
