Meanwhile In Southern California: Venice Drum Circle Gets Rowdy

By Nadia Noir

Damn hippies. If you’ve ever been to Venice Beach on a Sunday during the Sunset, you’ve probably smelled the sweet fumes of marijuana traveling down the beach and distant drumming coming from the waters edge. Dirty girls dressed in bellydancers clothing shimmy past you to where the sound is coming from.

That, my friends, is the Venice Beach drum circle. Usually, the only way that the drum circle gets rowdy is if tourists have had one too many beers on the beach. The locals are pretty harmless. But last night, the authorities had to be called when the hippies refused to break up the drum circle around 8:30pm.

At least 400 to 500 people were hanging around says LAist. The beach closes at sunset and the LAPD wasn’t happy about the near-riot that ensued with angry hippies chanting things like “f**k the police.”

According to LAPD’s Lt. Marco Munoz, a bottle was thrown at an officer and injured him while another bottle was thrown at a patrol car.

Check out the ruckus below.
