“I’m on a boat!,” you’ll be screaming as you race down the Los Angeles river in the L.A. River Boat Race. Or you’ll fall out of your kayak into duck-poop infested waters. Either way, kayaking in the LA River is the new big thing and now there’s even a competition surrounding it.

LAist just shone a light on an event coordinated by LA River Expeditions. The boat race takes place on August 30 and has races for canoeists, paddleboarders, and, of course, kayakers. You can rent equipment for $40-$60, or you can bring yours and a pay a $40 donation.

Apparently they are calling this the “first-ever” boat race on the river, but we’re betting there’s been a lot of “unofficial” boat races down those once trash-strewn shores.
