Johnny Marr’s ‘Easy Money’ Video Documents Time in a Run-Down Casino: Watch

“Easy Money,” the video for the first single from Johnny Marr‘s forthcoming album, is about exactly what you probably think it is about: unchecked capitalism and the individual quest for wealth vs. happiness.

He and his band are placed in a run-down casino, which could be on the shores of Northern England or it could be Atlantic City. It could even just be the seedy side of the Las Vegas strip — doesn’t matter, because all of these places look mostly the same.

The carpet smells of the same wet mold, caused by recycled air, and the hypnotizing flashes of the slot machines beam in the same color scheme.

While playing before a nearly empty cafeteria of senior citizens, Marr sings, “Watching Rome fall / but it’s only money.”
