4 Best Bet JACK-Tivities For This Weekend

Author: Dr. Cranfill

I LIKE TO DO THE THINGS I LIKE TO DO.

And if you too like to do things, then maybe you should check out one of the following, 4 Best Bet JACK-Tivities of this weekend (Oct.31st-Nov.2nd 2014)

West Hollywood Halloween Carnival

Friday, Oct.31st @ Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood– (6-11pm)

A couple hundred thousand people descend upon the streets of West Hollywood every year for their Halloween carnival and with it falling on a Friday this year expect it to be kicked up a couple notches. Parking is going to suck a golf ball thru a garden hose but Friday night should be a blast in WeHo. Have bail money ready.

2014 Breeders Cup

Saturday Nov.1st and Sunday Nov.2nd@ Santa Anita Park

Not that the turtle races at Brennan’s in Marina Del Rey aren’t cute, but if you want real racing action in SoCal you need to go to Santa Anita Park. This weekend is the weekend to do it with the 2014 Breeders Cup going down on Saturday and Sunday. And please, no Sarah Jessica Parker jokes… they’ve been done enough. Besides Tori Spelling looks way more like a horse than SJP ever did.

LA Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos)

(Photo by Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images)
Saturday, Nov.1st @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery– Noon-Midnight

Listen up gringos, since you stole this land from its native peoples the least you could do is learn about and experience some of their holidays and celebrations. Hollywood Forever’s Dia De Los Muertos festivities are vibrant, colorful, and way more culturally relevant than anything that happens on Columbus Day or any other of them white-people holidays you guys love so much. And before you fire up the “I’m offended e-mail machine,” just know I’m a cracker from North Carolina and, domestically speaking, it doesn’t get any more gringo-y than that.

Hello Kitty Convention

Thursday, Oct.30th-Sunday Nov. 2nd @ Geffen Contemporary at the MOCA

There are stupider things people go gaga over than Hello Kitty (AHEM Big Bang Theory) so I’ll allow this Hello Kitty Convention into this weekends Best Bet JACK-tivities. Besides, there’s a chance I’ll find the blonde Asian soul-mate I’ve been looking for all my life here, and maybe you can find some entertainment as well.
