Hang Ten! 66 Surfers Set New Record For Most People Riding A Surf Board In Huntington Beach

By Britt Bickel

Cowabunga, baby! A new world record for the most people catching a wave on a surfboard was set in Huntington Beach Saturday, reports the Los Angeles Times.

A group of 66 surfers piled onto a giant longboard – 42 feet long, 11 feet wide and weighing in at 1,300 pounds – to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people on a surfboard.

To set the record, they had to ride a wave for at least 10 seconds, which the group that included a mix of pro surfers and locals outdid with nearly 15 seconds.

The previous record was set in 2005 by 47 surfers in Australia, however, another group in Huntington Beach outdid that with 60 surfers on the same 39-foot board that year, but Guinness officials weren’t there to record it, LA Times notes.

We wouldn’t expect anything less from Surf City, USA! Check out the video above.
