DWP Project Could Close Runyon Canyon From April To July

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Hollywood’s favorite spot for hiking and outdoor exercise might close during the popular summer months.

Runyon Canyon, a favorite with hikers, joggers and celebrities looking to work up a sweat, has been the focus of discussions by the city Parks and Recreation commission.

“I’m going to be really sad if they’re really, truly closing it for a few months,” one hiker said.

Closing the park has been mentioned as a possibility by Department of Water and Power officials, who say they need to replace a roughly 1-mile stretch of pipe that runs through the park. They say the work is crucial to protect the park against fires and improve the water quality in the area.
