Nikki Sixx Declares Break from Social Media

By Amanda Wicks

Mötley Crüe’s bassist and songwriter Nikki Sixx has learned the hard way just how distracting social media can be. In the past year alone, he engaged in his fair share of Twitter feuds and he’s ready for a break.

Sixx announced his decision to leave Twitter and other platforms behind on Facebook. Instead of engaging in useless feuds, he intends to concentrate on writing new music and being more creative. Fear not, though, because Sixx promised to keep his Instagram account alive and well (primarily it seems to showcase his photography).

GOODBYE FACEBOOK….I WANNA GET BACK TO WHATS REAL.WRITING MUSIC,LYRICS,BOOKS,PHOTOGRAPHY ETC ETC…..IF YA WANNA FOLLOW ME I POST PHOTOS ON INSTAGRAM…OTHERWISE SEE YOU LIVE NEXT TIME I GO ON TOUR….MUCH LOVE…” Sixx wrote on Saturday (December 10th).

Sixx’s Twitter account has already been deactivated. He last butted heads with Gene Simmons in May over the latter’s comments about Prince’s death. “I think Prince was heads, hands and feet above all the rest of them. I thought he left [Michael] Jackson in the dust,” Simmons said. “Prince was way beyond that. But how pathetic that he killed himself. Don’t kid yourself, that’s what he did. Slowly, I’ll grant you…but that’s what drugs and alcohol is: a slow death.” That backhanded compliment caused Sixx to come out and proclaim Simmons was “no longer [his] hero” and from there things quickly escalated.

It sounds as though Sixx has learned his lesson when it comes to certain social media platforms.
