In Not Fade Away, we take a look at the legacy of great albums as they celebrate significant anniversaries. Here, we look back at Black Sabbath’s fifth album, 1973’s ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.’
While a majority of the North American shows will take place in Canada, the dates on this continent start and end right here in the United States, with Sabbath set to perform at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on March 31, then hit Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on April 26.
Last week, we gave you the lowdownon Louder Than Hell: The Definitive Oral History Of Metal, which takes you from the ’60s to today. It’s a great history lesson, and a very readable one. On the flip side is The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists, which gets into a crucial part of the heavy metal culture, namely, arguing about who is great, who sucks, and who is a poser.
The book starts off in the pre-metal era of the ’60s, covering the Stooges, the MC5 and Alice Cooper (when “Alice Cooper” represented a band, not just the frontman). It quickly moves to the early ’70s, starting with the formation of Black Sabbath and, shortly after fellow Brummies Judas Priest.
