Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi blew minds of New Jersey-ians. R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe came out of retirement. Eddie Vedder joined Roger Waters for a Pink Floyd classic. Kanye West wore a kilt – which soon got it’s own Twitter handle (and over 1,000 followers!). Jay-Z was a no-show. And, apparently, Paul McCartney has joined a new band… with the surviving members of Nirvana. It all was part of 12.12.12 The Concert For Sandy Relief benefitting the Robin Hood Foundation.

Over the weekend, Neil Young headlined his 26th annual Bridge School Benefit Concert. The annual acoustic concert always features a diverse lineup, and that was certainly true this year, as the lineup featured Young with Crazy Horse, Guns ‘N Roses, Jack White, psychedelic rockers Flaming Lips, bluesman Gary Clark Jr., Steve Martin with his bluegrass group The Steep Canyon Rangers, alt-rockers Foster The People and singer/songwriters k.d. lang, Sarah McLachlan, Ray LaMontagne and Lucinda Williams.

Other than Jay-Z’s own performance Saturday night, the only other time he grabbed a microphone was when he joined Pearl Jam on stage towards the end of their set for a rousing mashup of their “W.M.A.” and his “99 Problems.” But there were many great performances before that incredible collaboration.
